Brian Head Ski Season 2026–27: Your Guide to a Winter Stay at Cedar Breaks Lodge
Ski season in Southern Utah is almost here. Brian Head Resort plans to start spinning lifts on November 6, 2026, which could make it the first resort in Utah to open this winter. If you've been thinking about a ski trip, now is the time to lock in your dates.
Here's everything you need to know about skiing Brian Head this season, and why our King Bed Condo at Cedar Breaks Lodge makes the perfect home base.
Why Brian Head?
Utah's highest base elevation. Brian Head sits at 9,600 feet, the highest base of any ski resort in Utah. That altitude means colder temps, better snow, and one of the longest seasons in the state.
Plenty of snow. The resort averages around 360 inches of snow a season, and it's added new snowmaking on Navajo Mountain this year to open more terrain earlier.
Two mountains, one lift ticket. Brian Head spreads 650 skiable acres across two connected mountains, Navajo and Giant Steps. Navajo is gentle and great for beginners and kids; Giant Steps has the steeper runs and big views.
Fewer crowds, friendlier prices. Brian Head is one of Utah's best-kept secrets. You get real mountain skiing without the lift lines and price tags of the big Wasatch resorts.
Your Home Base: King Bed Condo at Cedar Breaks Lodge
Our newly remodeled studio is in Cedar Breaks Lodge, just steps from the Navajo ski lift. Grab your gear, walk out the door, and you're on the mountain. No shuttles, no parking lots.
Inside, you'll find a comfy king bed plus a sleeper sofa (sleeps up to 4), a cozy fireplace for cold nights, a kitchenette for easy breakfasts, and fun décor inspired by Dumb and Dumber that's sure to make you smile.
The lodge itself is where winter gets even better:
- Indoor pool, hot tub, and sauna to soak sore legs after a day on the slopes
- Underground parking garage, so no scraping snow off your car in the morning
- On-site restaurant for dinner without driving
- Rec room and fitness room for downtime
- 24-hour front desk for easy check-in
Beyond the Slopes
Not everyone in your group skis? Brian Head still has plenty to do:
- Snow tubing at the resort, a hit with kids and adults alike
- Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing through the Dixie National Forest
- Cedar Breaks National Monument just south of town, where the red rock amphitheater looks unreal under fresh snow
- Stargazing at nearly 10,000 feet, with some of the darkest skies in the West
- Lazy evenings by the fireplace or in the lodge hot tub

A few tips for a smooth trip:
- Book holidays early. Christmas, New Year's, and MLK weekend fill up fast, and holiday weeks have a 3-night minimum.
- Bring chains or 4WD. The road up the mountain climbs steeply, and winter storms can roll in quickly.
- Take it easy the first day. At 9,600 feet, drink plenty of water and pace yourself while you adjust to the altitude.
- Check conditions on brianhead.com before you go for lift status and snow reports.
